The Narrow-line Region of Seyfert Galaxies: Narrow-line Seyfert 1s versus Broad-line Seyfert 1s

چکیده
It is known that the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the nuclear radiation of narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) has different shapes with respect to that of ordinary broad-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (BLS1s), particularly in wavelengths of X-ray. This may cause some differences in the ionization degree and the temperature of gas in narrow-line regions (NLRs) between NLS1s and BLS1s. This paper aims to examine whether or not there are such differences in the physical conditions of NLR gas between them. For this purpose, we have compiled the emission-line ratios of 36 NLS1s and 83 BLS1s from the literature. Comparing these two samples, we have found that the line ratios of [O i]λ6300/[O iii]λ5007 and [O iii]λ4363/[O iii]λ5007, which represent the ionization degree and the gas temperature respectively, are statistically indistinguishable between NLS1s and BLS1s. Based on new photoionization model calculations, we show that these results are not inconsistent with the difference of the SED between them. The influence of the difference of SEDs on the highly ionized emission lines is also briefly discussed. Subject headings: galaxies: nuclei galaxies: Seyfert quasars: emission lines

A comparison of the hard ASCA spectral slopes of broad and narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies
The soft (≈ 0.1–2.0 keV) X-ray spectra of narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies are known to be generally steeper than those of Seyfert 1 galaxies with broader optical permitted lines. This has been attributed to the presence of strong soft X-ray excesses, over the hard X-ray power law, in many narrow-line Seyfert 1s. Here we use the currently available ASCA data to systematically compare the harder (...

The number of publications considering Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxies has increased dramatically in recent years. Especially after the launch of the X-ray missions ROSAT and ASCA, Narrow-Line Seyfert 1s have become very popular. In these proceedings I will give an overview of how they are distributed over the electromagnetic spectrum. I will describe what we know about them at radio, infrared, ...
متن کاملOptical emission line properties of Narrow Line Seyfert 1s and comparison AGN
Based on a new spectroscopic sample observed using the WHT, we examine the kinematic properties of the various emission line regions in narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) by modelling their profiles using multiple component fits. We interpret these results by comparison with velocity components observed for different lines species covered in the same spectrum, and equivalent components meas...

The classical unified model is challenged by the presence of various kinds of Seyfert 2 galaxies. We assemble a sample composed of 243 nearby Seyfert galaxies with redshifts z ≤ 0.05 to test the unification scheme. The sample contains 94 broad line Seyfert 1s (BLS1s), 44 narrow line Seyfert 1s (NLS1s), 36 X-ray absorbed hidden broad line region (BLR) Seyfert 2s (HBLR S2s), 42 X-ray absorbed non...
متن کاملType 2 Counterparts of Narrow - Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies
Unified models of Seyfert galaxies, based on viewing angles, successfully explain the observed differences between type 1 and 2 Seyferts. The existence of a range in accretion rates (ṁ ∼ 0.001− 1) relative to the Eddington rate (from broad-line Seyfert 1s to narrow-line Seyfert 1s or NLS1s) and the unification of Seyfert galaxies imply that there must be type 2 counterparts of NLS1 galaxies i.e...
